The use of "would rather + °¡Á¤¹ý" is used when A is talking about an action that he/she wishes that B would take.
The use of "would rather + verb" is used when A is talking about an action that he/she prefers.

NOTE: I work for myself. = I am self-employed.

NOTE: The sentence "I work in graduate school." is not commonly used.
